Abstract

Background: This study aims at determining the green cognition and entrepreneurship education level of the business owners or decisions makers in Indian MSMEs and how far it affects their organizational performance. The current study is a first-of-its-kind attempt to approach the green entrepreneurship practice through the knowledge and training requirements of the MSME owners. Methodology: For this cross-sectional study, the authors made use of a self-administered questionnaire comprising questions regarding green cognition, entrepreneurship education and organizational performance. After validation, the questionnaire was used to collect the respondents chosen through stratified random sampling method while 51 responses were collected. Descriptive statistics and inferential statistics were conducted. Results: The outcomes confirmed that most respondents were males, had post-graduate education, aged between 35-44, belonged to finance department, less than 10 employees, less than 1 crore annual turnover and working from suburban regions. The model found that green cognition, entrepreneurship education are positively associated with organizational performance. Implications: The study findings infer that the most of the MSME owners have entrepreneurship education that result in organizational performance while green cognition i.e., knowledge about green entrepreneurship practices need upskilling since the concept of green entrepreneurship has gained attention in the recent years whereas most respondents graduated in the previous decade. Appropriate green training should be provided to the MSMEs on a continuous basis to achieve sustainable businesses.
