A Comprehensive Review on the Prospects and Challenges in Technology Adoption in Organizations and the 4Ps of Sustainable Performance

Abstract

Background: There is a dearth of comprehensive reviews that encompasses both performance and sustainability aspects in technology adoption studies since the studies conducted earlier focused on the perspectives of sustainability, organizational performance, human resources and technology readiness. In order to fulfil this research gap, the current review is conducted encompassing four Ps such as personnel, process, performance and planet. Methodology: The current study is a narrative review for which the scholarly articles published between 2021 and 2024 in various knowledge databases were sourced. In addition to these, books, conference proceedings, reports from the international bodies were also referred to justify the research gap identified. The outcomes from the comprehensive review are presented under multiple sections. Results: From the review of literature, the authors was able to identify the requirement for a comprehensive framework that involves both sustainability and performance measures i.e., personnel, process, performance and the planet. In this sequential arrangement, a person innovates or improves the product through a structured process and achieves sustainable performance that safeguards the interests of the organization, people and the planet. Implications: The current study has provided knowledgeable insights to the future researchers on sustainability performance aspects while it has recommended to validate the proposed framework through empirical investigations.
